I don't know much about this guy yet and have to do my research to get the facts. But here is an article about this Obama guy that may make a run for the Democratic ticket.

Obama and the God factor

Even before the Christian thing (I didn't know Barak Obama was Christian until I read this article, I figured he was Muslim with a name like that), I've been impressed with him as a fairly reasonable Democrat. Some of his social policies don't jive with my thinking, but all-in-all, he's a pretty reasonable guy. It would be interesting to see him as a candidate. I don't see a ton of highly qualified Republicans that I'd vote for in lieu of him at this point. . .

I just read some interesting things in an old article on Obama:

http://www.mensnewsdaily.com/archive/s/stix/2004/stix082204.htm

Quotes like: "Obama the Christian is a devout believer in unlimited abortion rights. He denies the existence of Hell. He came to Christianity through social organizing with activist religious. His devout Christianity derives from the secular humanist “values” his atheist mother imbued him with." make it clear that I have some significant theological differences.

I can't support the claim that "there is no hell," perhaps he's changed his tune through understanding, as this is an old article. But, regardless, I can't say that Bush is the optimal example of what Jesus would do, either. . . Not that I think it would be easy in this secular and fallen world to run the United States from a purely Christian perspective. As much as we'd like that to happen as Christians, it hasn't happened in a long time. . .
