This is just so wrong

Usually I am sticking up for the gays when all of the gaybashing is going on, and I will continue to do so. But when I heard about these firefighters in San Diego that were forced to attend the annual Gay Pride Parade I have to stand with them in their harrassment claim. They should not be forced to participate in it and I do believe they have a good chance of winning their case in court.

read the article about it here

I have to agree. I read the article and even their complaint and it is ridiculous. Firefighters are treated as sex icons anyway, that they shouldn't do anything to encourage them anymore. They should have just let the female captain's team participate if they so chose - that would have made more sense at least.

I never really thought of the atmosphere at a public event -i.e. parade - as constituting a "workplace" but in the sense that these people were given no option -"Attend or else"- being forced to be subjected to obscenities in various forms, is not, for openers, a way to encourage diversity and civility between factions. Granted, there are some who seeing, hearing obscenities, may not be offended. But, just as gay people would not want to be taunted about their sexual preferences, separated from society because of those issues, etc., so to would many straight people not wish to be subjected to actions such as those described in the article. It really is a human rights issue - "do unto others" and if you wouldn't want something that goes against your morals pushed on you, why would anyone think someone else would want that - regardless of whether one is gay or straight?
